2 Many Djs

In times where moms give their sons and daughters DJ-courses for their birthdays and bootlegging has become an Olympic sport, it is nice to see a record that sets a new standard in the genre of mix-albums: ‘2 Many DJ’s’ from Belgian groove-gurus Soulwax. After having wooed Belgian and Dutch crowds for a few years with these eclectic sets, they went on to impress the most cynical part of the world, the London scene, a loud yet harmless species. The British capital, where approximately 67% of the population (including 17% of women over 65) owns two decks and a mixer, is used to a thing or two, but Stephen and David immediately raised quite a few eyebrows with sp

Crystal Castels

Crystal Castles is an experimental electronic band which formed in 2003 in Ontario and consists of producer Ethan Kath and vocalist Alice Glass. They are named after the lyrics “The fate of the world is safe in Crystal Castles” and “Crystal Castles, the source of all power” both from the theme song for She-Ra’s fortress. They are known for their melancholic lo-fi sound and their explosive live shows. Their debut album was included in NME’s “Top 50 Albums of the Decade”. Initally the band was a solo project started by Ethan Kath in December 2003. Ethan later discovered Alice Glass singing in a noise-punk band, and

Alex Kapranos (Franz Ferdinand)

Alexander Paul Kapranos Huntley (born March 20, 1972 in Almondsbury, England) is the guitarist and lead singer of the Scottish band Franz Ferdinand. He was born to a Greek father and an English mother. Kapranos spent his early childhood in Sunderland and South Shields,[citation needed] his mother's home town, and spent most summers in his father's native Greece. He has a sister named Anne and a brother, Phillip. Huntley is the name of his father's aunt. His mother insisted on the middle name Paul, because of a long-term crush on Paul McCartney. In 1980, he moved with his family to Edinburgh, then to Glasgow in 1984. At the age of seventeen, Kapranos attended the University

Booka Shade

Booka Shade are Walter Merziger and Arno Kammermeier, production masterminds behind most Get Physical releases (eg all releases and remixes of M.A.N.D.Y., DJ T., Sunsetpeople and Chelonis R. Jones). In charge of their own production company and studio for the last 15 years, they have applied their wide range of talents not only to the realm of electronic music, but also a large number of other media productions. After two early 90s synth pop album releases and a number of live tours, they switched their attention to club projects for established labels like R&S, Harthouse or Tommy Boy. But it was their early incarnation of Booka Shade on illustrious Dutch label Touché which

Apparat

This apparat is one with flexible functions, and its sound is as eclectic as its musical horizon is broad. Its emotional chip features an option on happiness and its sound waves are able to tear your heart apart. While sensitively orchestrating his chamber musical qualities on his records or in his studio, his live performances are known for kicking some ass! He can a

Kavinsky

Born out of the imagination of electronica composer Vincent Belorgay, Kavinsky is the fictional character who graces the covers of both Teddy Boy and 1986, Belorgay's first two EPs. The illustrated Kavinsky bears a striking resemblance to the French DJ himself, although the backstory Belorgay created to go with his pseudonym is far removed from the artist's own modest history. The story goes that after crashing his Testarossa in 1986, Kavinsky reappeared as a zombie in 2006 to make electronic music. Luckily for Belorgay, his zombie tale serves as a good story line for a music video, as he demonstrated with the single "Testarossa Overdrive," from the Teddy Boy EP. Belo

Motel Connection

Connection in creative evolution, in transition … but also: impact, emotional intensity, and the depth of physicality. By now, having years of history behind it, the project Motel Connection is increasingly able to drive to unfamiliar streets. Meeting early in the new millennium, doing sound system for exhibitions and art installations, today Motel Connection is a mature project ready for any challenge. First, Marco Ponti in 2001 asked them to compose the soundtrack of Santa Maradona, cult film from the resounding success of both public and critics (with special mention on its music). The desir
